The ADA Compliance guidelines listed on Digital Accessibility apply to the web pages, images and documents hosted on the Hub intranet. These compliance standards also apply to applications attached to the web pages used for 3rd party content, Forms, Videos and podcasts.

Hub Requirements

To comply with Digital Accessibility guidelines these additional steps are needed to create accessible content for the Hub Intranet internal Pages.

  • Documents

    *Ensure documents have been reviewed for accessibility before uploading to the CMS.

    Add a document Title and Description text. This can be added on upload or by selecting the item in the Media Library after uploading to the CMS.

    • Select the Item from the Media Library
    • Add a Title, include the extension type at the end i.e. (PDF)
    • Add a 1 sentence description. This will appear in Search results.

  • Images

    Content Details–Image 

    Alt Text text can be added on upload or by selecting the Image after uploading to the CMS.

    • Select the Item from the Media Library
    • A short description of image content and context

  • Web Pages

    Page Metadata

    • Add a page Titles to Metadata - a short (under 80 characters), unique and descriptive of the page content.
      Metadata Page titles are typically the same as the web page banner title.

    OpenGraph

    OpenGraph Title - a short (under 180 characters), and accurately summarize the actions or content of the web page. 

    • Add a Title and Description to OpenGraph
    • Page Title followed by ( | Section Title) OpenGraph Title are unique to each page
      i.e. Contact Us | Human Resources

    OpenGraph Description - a single sentence that describes the content or actions of the web page

    • Add Description to OpenGraph
    • Include any additional key words of phrases that users may search

  • Accessibility Tools

    There are many tools used to check accessibility both for webpages and documents submitted into the content management system.

    Browser Plug-in

    • WAVE Introduction Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browser extensions and Sitecore CMS are the tools used for spot checking The Hub web pages.
       It shows Aria labels, Alt Text, and link information for on-page content.

    Digital Documents

    • WebAIM Contrast Checker - Compare color contrast on digital projects to see if combinations pass ADA color compliance.
    • Built-in Accessibility Checkers - Microsoft applications have a built-in accessibility checker to assist in ADA compliance. It is not perfect but will fix some of the common issues with being read by screen-readers.

Wordpress

The first step for Accessibility is to remove any unused web pages, documents and images from the website. Unsed and unattached web content counts against your accessibility score.

To view the any images and documents that are not attached to pages:

  • Log into wordpress
  • Go to the Media Library
  • All Media Items>Select Unattached
  • Remove all unused items
