What is the Experience Editor?
The Experience Editor is an intuitive editing environment designed for content Editors and Approvers to edit and write content directly on the page. Here you can edit the most visible on-page content — text, graphics, logos, and links.
There are three main areas of the Experience Editor:
- Experience Editor Toolbar
- Navigation
- Editing Area
Experience Editor (PDF)
Experience Editor Toolbar
- Grid Icon – Returns to the Launchpad
- Tabs – Home, Presentation, Experience, Versions, View
- Ribbon Options – Each Tab has a set of options unique to that category.
- Navigation – The Navigation Bar shows the website structure pages and subsections.
- Content Tree – A compacted version of the Content Editors Content Tree
Ribbon Options
Save, Search, Components, Edit and Preview, and the Navigation bar are available with all Tabs.
- Home – Component, Insert Page, Rename, My Items (locked), Unlock, and Workbox
- Presentation – Associated Content
- Experience – Date, Time, Device view
Navigation
Navigation in the In the Experience Editor, is done using the navigation bar below the The Ribbon Option section.
Navigation Options
- Website Tree Structure
- Breadcrumb Navigation
- Caret Drop Down List
- Go accesses the selected page
- Edit is the same as Lock and Edit for page editing
Lock and Edit
Lock and Edit must be selected before the editing options become available.
Three ways to Lock and Edit
- Select the link in the Notification
- Select Edit on the Navigation bar
- Select Lock from the Home Tab
Once saved the page becomes a Draft and it will appear in a users Workbox.
Editing Areas
In the Experience Editor, you can edit certain fields of the current page and any items rendered on the page.
- On the banner you can edit the type of banner, text, and image.
- In the page body, you can edit text, links, and add images or components without leaving the page.
Abridged Editor (RTE)
Clicking on an area will open the Abridged Editor (RTE)
A Toolbar with basic editing options for simple edits.
- Adding limited text
- Style Bold, Italic or Underline
- Add an External Link or Internal Link
- Add or replace an Image
- Selecting the Edit the Text Icon (pencil) will open the Full Rich Text Editor (RTE)
Save and Submit
When editing is complete, save the page. Saving will create a page Draft that can be edited or submitted from Notifications or manually from the Workbox.
Submit pages to advance the Workflow. This can be done from the Notification section or manually from the Workbox.
Workbox Actions
- Submitting will go to an Approver
- Approvers can Accept or Reject a Draft
- Accept will Publish to the website, Reject will put page back into Drafts
Workbox for Editors
Items that have been saved automatically become Drafts that appear in the a users Workbox.
- Preview – View a web page as it will appear on the live website.
- Open – Opens a Draft to continue editing.
- Submit – Advance the workflow to an Approver.
Multiple pages can be selected.
