It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the unexpected passing of our dear colleague, Christopher J. “Chris” Niemann, Pharm.D., on Monday, March 24, 2025. Chris joined our Information Technology’s Epic team in 2021 as an informatics pharmacist and was the first pharmacy clinical coordinator in the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center satellite pharmacy within the ambulatory infusion treatment area, from 2012 to 2018. His expertise in oncology pharmacy was instrumental in developing cancer treatment order sets, treatment plans, and ensuring medication safety.

Chris was not only a pivotal member of our IT team but also a cherished part of the UConn Health community. His kindness, helpful nature, and genuine care for others are qualities that we will always remember and aspire to emulate. Chris lived in Avon with his family and was heavily involved in the Avon community, especially with Avon High School sports and the local tennis community.

He was born in Jamaica, New York, on October 6, 1973, and was raised in Bedford, New Hampshire. He graduated from Manchester West High School in 1992 and earned his degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1998, followed by his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Florida. Chris was a proud member of the Phi Delta Chi fraternity.

Chris is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Shirine Nassery Niemann, and their daughters, Ainsley Kathleen and Brooke Nassery. He is also survived by his parents, James J. Niemann and Diana R. (Pulgrano) Niemann of Bedford, his sister Patricia L. Uhlig and her husband John of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and his brother James M. Niemann and his wife Julie of Wakefield, Massachusetts. Additionally, he leaves behind his nephews, J.J. Niemann, Charles Niemann, and Andrew Uhlig, along with a loving extended family.

Chris was the perfect balance to his wife, and the world feels incomplete without him. He loved his family with unmatched intensity and was the person everyone in his community depended on. His daughters, devastated by his loss, will carry with them many wonderful memories and embody his best qualities: kindness, generosity, selflessness, and a great sense of humor.

Chris's love for his extended family was fierce, and they cherished their annual summer gatherings at the Jersey Shore for nearly five decades. Memories of the boardwalk, beach days, Seaside Olympics, and Klees will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Chris was also an exceptional host and chef, known for his precise baking skills and elaborate themed cakes for his daughters' birthdays. He was a master in the kitchen and his expertise even extended to the art of dishwasher loading.

Chris was a passionate sports fan, cheering for his favorite teams—the Patriots, Yankees, and Bruins—with enthusiasm from the comfort of his couch, often accompanied by his dog Quincy and his daughters, all dressed in team spirit wear. The family enjoyed playing tennis together at a local racquet club and are incredibly grateful for the community there. “Sap Season” was Chris's favorite time of year, adding another cherished memory to his legacy.

In honor of Chris, the family has requested that donations be directed to the Christopher Niemann Memorial Tennis Fund through the Avon High School Booster Club. Checks can be mailed directly to AHS Booster Club, c/o Avon High School, 510 West Avon Road, Avon, CT 06001. Online donations can be made via www.avonfalconboosters.com, with an indication that they are in honor of Christopher Niemann.
