The mission of the Office of Radiation Safety (ORS) is to ensure the organization complies with all regulatory requirements while maintaining exposures as low as reasonably achievable.  We do this by:

 

• Ensuring radioactive materials (RAM) are managed in accordance with our NRC license requirements
• Ensuring the organization complies with State of Connecticut statutes related to installation, operation, and maintenance of radiation generating devices
• Monitoring individuals likely to receive 10% of a federal exposure limit or 25% of a State of Connecticut exposure limit to ensure they remain below those limits
• Providing radiation safety training to RAM users, nurses, researchers, doctors, residents, and other individuals handling radioactive materials, using RGDs, or working in radiation areas
• Supporting clinical, research, and construction activities involving the use of radioactive materials or radiation generating devices
