Epic evolves at a deliberate and steady pace, with major enhancements delivered every quarter. Following our successful implementation of the Nov25 release in June, we are now preparing for the Feb26 upgrade, scheduled for late September.
Our strategy of remaining three versions behind the latest release is intentional. It allows us to introduce innovation thoughtfully while minimizing disruption and ensuring a stable, reliable experience for our clinicians, staff, and patients.
Below are our June 2026 Basic System dashboard statistics. As you can see, one area for improvement is Fast Access. I am happy to share that our IT Infrastructure team is actively deploying a new Epic workstation configuration that reduces login times from minutes to seconds. We are also working with Epic to deliver critical fixes more frequently, with little to no impact on system availability.

Our Epic journey has been recognized nationally. UConn Health has earned Epic Honor Roll distinction three consecutive times, reflecting how we have transformed Epic from a technology platform into a strategic enabler of exceptional patient care.
- V8 Honor Roll: Cum Laude (Jan. 30, 2026)
- V7 Honor Roll: Cum Laude (May 3, 2024)
- V5 Honor Roll: Cum Laude (Sept. 19, 2022)
These achievements demonstrate our commitment to operational excellence, clinical innovation, data-driven decision-making, and a culture of continuous improvement.
We were also just recognized by Epic for having some of the shortest cumulative downtimes, under 190 minutes, for planned maintenance in the last year while following our maintenance best practices to keep their systems up to date.
While these accomplishments are worth celebrating, they also highlight an exciting opportunity ahead. Epic continually delivers powerful new capabilities, yet approximately 25% of features remain underutilized across our healthcare organization. Imagine the impact if we could unlock the full potential of the tools already available to us.
That is why we are eager to partner with engaged clinicians, operational leaders, and Epic super users who are passionate about improving workflows and enhancing the patient experience. Together, we can champion innovation, accelerate adoption of high-value features, and continue building an Epic environment that not only keeps pace with the future of healthcare, but also helps shape it.
Please email Kristy Smith if you are interested in learning more about ways you can partner with the Epic team to champion its full capabilities.
