Telehealth Waiver Expiration effective 9/30/2025
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) telehealth waivers put in place during the COVID-19 public health emergency and extended through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 are set to expire on September 30, 2025. At this time, we do not anticipate the waiver being extended as it has been in the past.
Effective October 1, 2025:
- Telehealth services for non-behavioral health patients will no longer be covered by Medicare or most other payers.
- Behavioral and mental health services remain permanently eligible for telehealth delivery, including certain audio-only visits, per Section 1834(m) of the Social Security Act.
- For all other patient populations, visits must transition back to in-person care to ensure compliance and reimbursement.
Due to the expiration of the Waiver, Operations is actively working to reschedule impacted appointments.
Please take the following actions:
- Please share this message with your physicians, staff, and other team members accordingly.
- Proactively remind patients who are impacted that telehealth visits will no longer be available after September 30.
- Work with your clinical and scheduling teams to transition patients back to in-person appointments starting October 1.
- Continue offering telehealth for behavioral and mental health services where clinically appropriate, or where specifically allowed, such as for patients participating in the CMS GUIDE program.
The rescheduling process for impacted patients has begun.
Thank you for your continued support as we comply with CMS regulations and work to minimize any disruption in care for our patients.
